Telemetrics Assists Media Challenges with Robotic Camera Control Systems.
By Jeff Cain, Network Services Supervisor, County of San Bernardino

As the largest geographic county in the contiguous United States, covering just over 20,000 square miles, we have had our share of problems in the past providing media services, in fact, it was downright challenging. But back in 1991, aided by the use of Telemetrics robotic camera control systems, the task has been nothing short of a breeze.

As a turnkey multimedia production service, we specialize in capturing and delivering content from conferences offering medical specialty and board certification review programs for the medical industry. These programs or sessions are conducted by major teaching centers across the country, and are held in a variety of facilities including auditoriums, hotel ballrooms, conference centers and lecture halls.

We record approximately 25-30 of these conferences a year, taping every minute of every session. In post-production we edit out breaks, speaker changes, etc., and then repackage the material to DVD, VHS or CD media format for duplication and distribution. By watching the video, our customers get all the medical information presented at the conference. In fact, over 90% of our customers pass their medical board certification and re-certification exams.

We use robotics for these recording sessions in order to remain unobtrusive. The live event must be respected. Unlike at a TV show taping, we set up the robotics behind the audience to maintain our low profile. And each time we attend a conference we must ship all the equipment to the conference location, unpack and set it up. It’s like setting up a small studio every time.

Telemetrics Camera Robotic Systems and Orad Virtual Studio Keep
Traders Television Network On-Track.

Innovative Virtual Studio & Camera Robotics Systems Make Most Of Limited Studio
Rodney Murray loves a good challenge.
And that’s exactly what was presented when SplashMedia asked him to design and install a network studio in a space the size of a garage.  But that was only the beginning.  The facility, located in Addison, TX, was on the ground floor of a five story commercial/residential building and flanked on either side by restaurants.  The existing space had to be gutted before new construction could begin with just six months to the scheduled air date. Most people said it couldn’t be done – but not Murray.  He accepted the position of Senior Director of Engineering for SplashMedia and became responsible for building the studio that is home to Traders Television Network (TTV) – the first satellite television network dedicated solely to online investors and traders.

The Weather Channel Forecasts Great Results With New Telemetrics Robotics Control Systems Merging of Old and New Systems Provides Universal Control from Any of Five Locations

Over the last few months, The Weather Channel (TWC) has launched two initiatives that have been in the planning since last winter.  The first is a new look, logo and tag line that viewers will see along with a refreshed program lineup, a new studio set and new on-camera talent.  The second initiative is taking place behind the scenes with the installation of a new Telemetrics Robotics Camera System that includes the innovative new TeleGlide Camera Track System, which has been integrated with the TWC’s existing system.

Studio and Programming Get a New Look
The Weather Channel, headquartered in Atlanta, GA, is a 24/7 operation, with multiple shifts of on-camera meteorologists, technicians, operators and producers.  The facility includes Studios 1A and 1B where Your Weather Today and First Outlook are produced.  Installation of the Telemetrics Robotics System will be completed in these studios by late fall.  The new Studio 1C – which features Telemetrics’ TeleGlide Camera Track System and Televator elevating camera pedestals control of the existing system – is home to the new Weekend View program which is a 7-11 a.m. fully produced show that launched in early October.  Additionally, TWC has added robotics control capability to outdoor cameras, which are integrated into the studio system.
