Employ Telemetrics Coax Systems For Long Camera Runs In New Stadium

Mahwah, NJ (July 18, 2002) – The Fresno Grizzlies’ new stadium rivals that of any major league ballpark with the latest spectator amenities and creature comforts to make every ballgame an entertaining experience. As the AAA farm team for the San Francisco Giants MLB team, the Fresno Grizzlies draw big crowds at home. To keep fans into the game, the Fresno Grizzlies’ new stadium features a state of the art AV system that includes a large video board and banks of video monitors located throughout the facility and in the ballpark’s luxury suites.

According to Patrick McGinnis, Video Production Manager for the Fresno Grizzlies, every game is covered by three JVC GY-DV550 3CCD cameras to provide live video on the stadium’s video board and monitors. The new cameras are configured for studio production, and are located behind first and third bases with a third camera mounted high above and behind home plate. A fourth camera is on order for placement in center field.

“When we received shipment of our cameras, we immediately sent one to Telemetrics Systems so that they could outfit their coax camera control system to operate with our new units,” said Mr. McGinnis. “Telemetrics turned the order around for us very quickly and the systems worked flawlessly right out of the box.”

Throughout the recently completed AAA season, the three JVC cameras were located a significant distance from a temporary control area that Mr. McGinnis said was somewhat of a “hostile production environment”. Since then, a permanent control room has been completed. Mr. McGinnis said he has run up to 2800 feet of coax between the cameras and Telemetrics Coax Camera Control units without any loss of signal quality. This was an important performance criterion since the Fresno Grizzlies are negotiating television contracts with a local broadcast station and cable channel to carry the team’s games next year.

In addition to baseball, the Fresno Grizzlies’ stadium is used for a host of special events including concerts and shows. “We are getting ready for a big ‘Barney’ show here soon and its important that our video feeds are working properly – especially when the stands will be filled with 15,000 excited children,” said Mr. McGinnis. “I’m confident that our Telemetrics coax camera control systems will come through for us as they have all season.”

Telemetrics TM9255B Coax Camera Control System permits long cable runs between camera locations and controllers or other transmission systems. The system incorporates genlock at the base station and provides for easy timing adjustments for different cable lengths. The system also provides comprehensive remote camera set-up and adjustment capabilities, video outputs, return video, microphone, audio, intercom, IFB program audio, tally and power to each camera.
