Video Production Of NY State Legislature Sessions Uses Telemetrics Camera Robotics And Signal Multiplexing Systems.
Mahwah, NJ -- On January 14, 2002, the New York State Legislature began gavel-to-gavel broadcasts of its Assembly Sessions on the Internet and the Capital TV network. The broadcasts are produced using an advanced camera robotics system from Telemetrics, Inc that employs seven remotely operated cameras, control panels, coax transmission systems and sophisticated control software that has been customized for the application. The system was designed by AV Solutions of Albany, NY and installed by Audio Video Corp also of Albany.
The NY State Legislatures production staff controls the Telemetrics Camera Robotics System from an adjacent building using the companys TM-CPS Control Software that was customized for legislature applications. Telemetrics convergence software provides fluid movements of pan, tilt, zoom and focus simulating the movements of camera operators. Each of the camera sites includes a PT-HP-S Serial Controlled Pan/Tilt unit that is connected to a fiber network using Coax Signal Multiplexers from Telemetrics. The coax transmission systems provide video, genlock, pan/tilt data, power, and camera control over a single cable for each camera. A second coax cable provides the digital video signal for the on-air switcher. Since the Assembly Chamber is a historic site, all of the robotic camera units and coax cables were painted to match the buildings sandstone walls.
The New York Assemblys camera robotics system is an enhanced version of similar systems that Telemetrics has already provided for the Michigan House of Representatives and the Florida Legislature. By combining our advanced camera robotics software with highly versatile joystick controllers, the complete system can be operated with just three technicians, said Anthony Cuomo, Vice President of Telemetrics, Inc. Telemetrics is also the only camera robotics manufacturer that offers coax and triax transmission systems to provide fully integrated camera control capabilities.
The main control system consists of a touch screen monitor with a graphical layout of the Assembly Chamber. Overlaid on the Chambers seating graphic is color-coded information on the microphone status for each of the 150 members. The camera operator needs only to touch the screen to recall one of over 300 camera presets calibrated to each Assembly members desk. The camera operator can adjust each shot using a joystick controller while a camera tally system alerts the switcher operator to the proper camera to place on air. The software also directs a character generator to display the selected members name when a camera is on air. The third technician operates an alternate character generator for special graphics, as well as the audio mixer and tape decks.
All New York State Cable TV providers will soon carry the Assembly Sessions. Streaming video of the Assembly Sessions can be viewed in real time at http://assembly.state.ny.us/ by clicking the icon labeled New Assembly Audio & Video.
