Weather Systems International
Forecasts Continued Smooth Studio Operations
With Telemetrics Camera Robotics System.
.
Mahwah, NJ -- Weather Systems International (WSI), located in Birmingham England, has been using a Telemetrics Camera Robotics System 24-hours a day, seven days a week for over five months without any interruption of service. The Telemetrics System allows WSI to control the pan, tilt, zoom and focus functions of their studio camera from their control room, eliminating the need for a camera operator in the studio.
"Camera robotics systems are playing an increased role in television studio operations around the world, as station management looks for more efficient methods of improving coverage," said Anthony Cuomo, Vice President, Telemetrics, Inc. "As a pioneers in the camera robotics industry, you can find Telemetrics Camera Robotics Systems in virtually every major market across the U.S, as well as numerous installations overseas at prestigious broadcast facilities like WSI in England."
Mitcorp UK, Ltd., the authorized Telemetrics agent in England and Ireland, provided the Telemetrics camera robotics system installed at WSI. The system is comprised of aTelemetrics PT/LP Pan/Tilt Device and Desktop Control Panel.
According to Alan Wells, Broadcast Manager at WSI, "Our output is largely controlled by a single operator. The Telemetrics system has worked perfectly and to have such accurate control and shot recall combined with silk smooth movement is more than I could have asked for."
Telemetrics PT/LP Pan/Tilt Device incorporates a serial control receiver and a power supply to facilitate remote studio operation of cameras with teleprompters. The unit's smooth, variable speed operation is provided by heavy-duty cross roller bearings and Swiss motors with isolation mounts. The PT/LP's lens connector provides direct connection and interface to all lens functions (various lens interfaces are available). Additional features include positional feedback for shot storage and recall; adjustable end stops; and a threaded base for easy tripod, pedestal and ceiling mounting.
The PT/LP is controlled by Telemetrics' CP-DTS-S Desktop Serial Control Panel, which is located in WSI's control room. The CP-DTS-S provides dual joystick control: one for manual positioning of the pan/tilt and the other for zoom and focus control. The unit employs RS-232/422 serial data protocols for transmission to the PT/LP.
The CP-DTS-S installed at WSI includes Telemetrics' CPO-P8 Preset Option which provides storage and recall of eight preset shots (via an eight button panel) using non-volatile memory. The easy to read backlight buttons can be used for other functions including camera power, lens extender and wiper on/off when used with Telemetrics weatherproof camera robotics.
